First Week of School

Not at all happy about having their picture taken this morning.

The kids started school this week. It’s time for school uniforms, early mornings for mom and whining over homework. Kelsey seems to enjoy her classes. It being her last year she is taking quite a few electives. She is taking both food tech and hospitality….and auto tech. I don’t know what to tell you. She is a teenager. She likes cars, but let’s face it she likes cars because boys like cars. Let’s just hope she washes her hands before she goes to food tech. I have visions of giant fluffy Blueberry and Axel Grease Muffins. The only thing Marty has told me is that his teacher is strict. To which my reply has been “GOOD!!”. Marty is a smart kid, however he does need looking after to stay on task. And if he gets bored, all I can say is watch out. He will test your patience like no other.

Kelsey started volleyball with both her school and club this week. She is sore and her fee hurt. The club coach has asked the women (and I mean women, Kelsey is the only “kid”) to make a serious commitment. This team plays in quite a few international events and it’s hard when game day arrives and only a few players show up. I think we will be making the commitment, assuming the costs aren’t out of this world. Kelsey is struggling with lows right after school, so we are in the throws of insulin ratio mix up. Today she starts a full day of 1:10 down from 2:15. Hopefully that will fix things. Marty made the Soap Box Derby team at his school. They are having their first meeting this Sunday. They race at the end of March. I really don’t know anything about Soap Box Derby other than they make their car and race it. I am looking forward to learning more. His blood sugar has been perfect. No stress nor exercise increase issues. How long do you think that will last??

Today is Friday and it’s short school week for them, but it seems to have all gone well. Next week I go in to teach Marty’s class about diabetes. Most of the kids already know he is a diabetic, but I like to share the info so he has many people looking out for him. Besides, the love it when I whip out the needle…kids are funny that way.

Yes, our summer starts in December. So it’s the same season of school it’s just different months. We have only been here since July, so it’s been hard for us. What is cool though is that school starts in Feb. and ends in Dec. So, it’s almost like it’s on the calendar year.
